Stem Cell Therapy & Headaches

Colorado Headache Treatment Center

There is a lot of conflicting and controversial information about stem cells in the media, and before going further we would like to clarify the following: Stem cells can be harvested from anyone, including you, and the most common type of clinical stem cells (including those used to treat headaches) are mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) which are usually taken from adult bone marrow and adipose tissue.

Our team will be more than happy to address any questions or concerns you may have about stem cells. We believe in providing patients with honest, forthright information and would never push someone into treatment they do not feel comfortable with.

How Stem Cells Treat Headaches

Stem cells are essentially “blank cells” which take on the properties of the surrounding cells. By removing stem cells from one part of the body and transferring them to another, we can heal areas where the existing cells have been damaged or destroyed. Recent studies have found that inserting stem cells into the area where a headache originates can help reduce pain and possibly eliminate the problem altogether.

Headaches are still a mystery in many ways, but stem cell therapy has proven to be an extremely effective treatment method for many patients. Some medical researchers have suggested that the tissues in and around the area where headaches originate have been damaged and inserting stem cells here help the body heal.

Work With a Renowned Headache Specialist

Dr. Silva, acting director of the Interventional Headache Center of Colorado, is a leading headache specialist. He has been researching the effect of stem cells on headaches for several years and made incredible headway with numerous patients. We extract stem cells from bone marrow in a minimally invasive procedure and cultivate them for use in the headache area. Results from treatment may include long-term headache remission and reduced pain during a headache.
